Pacific Police Chiefs have elected the inaugural leadership of PACPOL, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of Pacific-led policing cooperation and regional security.
Following the endorsement of the PACPOL Constitution at the 53rd PICP Annual Conference held in Saipan, in the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Pacific Police Chiefs have elected Commissioner David Manning of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary as the inaugural PACPOL Chair and Commissioner Matatia Makaili, of Tuvalu Police Service as Deputy Chair.
PACPOL, brings together the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) and the Pacific Policing Initiative (PPI) under a single Pacific-led and Pacific-owned identity, strengthening regional leadership, governance, capability development and operational coordination. PACPOL will be governed by its newly agreed Constitution, and will be led by a single Chiefs Leadership Board, replacing the former PICP and PPI governance arrangements.
