New era for Pacific policing: Police Chiefs endorse PACPOL

In a landmark decision that will shape the future of policing across the Pacific, the region’s Police Chiefs have endorsed the Constitution of the Pacific Community of Policing (PACPOL), formally establishing the next chapter in Pacific-led policing cooperation.

The vote was held on the 15th of October 2026 during the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) 53rd Annual Conference in Saipan, in the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands.

The endorsement marks the culmination of more than 50 years of regional policing cooperation and unites the PICP and the Pacific Policing Initiative (PPI) under a single Pacific-owned identity and governance framework. PACPOL reflects the collective vision of Pacific Police Chiefs to strengthen the regional policing architecture and amplify the voice of the Chiefs across the Pacific and globally.

The Constitution provides the foundation for how PACPOL will operate, govern, make decisions and deliver on regional policing priorities. Its endorsement marks the transition from design to implementation and establishing PACPOL as the region's future policing collaboration mechanism.
